From humble beginnings, JXSSE’s musical journey has been one of resilience and creativity. Growing up in Canada after immigrating from Moldova, JXSSE found solace in studying music theory from a young age. Despite facing challenges such as homelessness and periods spent in group homes, music became their lifeline, a means of expressing the complexities of life and love.
Rooted in Canadian culture yet influenced by a myriad of global sounds, JXSSE’s music transcends borders. From the hip-hop rhythms reminiscent of XXXTENTACION, to the grunge vibes and raw emotion inspired by international icons like Nirvana and Portishead, JXSSE’s sound is a melting pot of influences that defy categorization.

“DOPEamine”
There are many things we can do to produce more dopamine. Some do drugs, some write and some read. Our choices seem like endless cycles perpetuated by the need to feel good. We engage in these cycles for an instant fix, like slapping a Band-Aid on a wound, to give ourselves a sense of joy even for just a few moments. Some of us find ways to maintain this sense of joy and, in turn, find stability. This story is about the ones who cannot.
DOPEamine is a story of love, sex, mental illness, trauma, addiction and growth. It tells the story of a young Queer individual who had to survive the streets of Toronto to find peace and purpose. Although tumultuous and heartbreaking, it is a sobering testimony of DOPE and DOPAMINE.
The Queer Agenda
The Queer Agenda (QA), created by JXSSE, is a peer-led initiative with the purpose of reducing barriers faced by youth when accessing housing and shelter supports. The program was designed to build safe spaces for 2SLGBTQ+ youth to promote inclusivity within communities. It raises awareness & education about queer culture and communities to empower queer youth and encourage allyship!
